Born into an Anglo-Jewish artistic family in London, Solomon trained at the Royal Academy Schools and developed close ties with Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Edward Burne-Jones and writer Algernon Charles Swinburne. Part of the second generation of the Pre-Raphaelite circle, he helped steer the movement’s development towards Aestheticism.
