In the 1950s and early 1960s, Jean's work was figurative-based sculpture using marble, Portland stone and Cement Fondu, a material known for its hardness and durability and for creating detailed sculptures. She then devised a method of electroplating her cement sculptures in the studio with a fine layer of copper to give the appearance of a bronze finish, as seen in the present work.
