20th Century: Paintings | Sculpture | Ceramics: Marlborough
-
Overview
Our exhibition at The Little Gallery, Marlborough this Spring will chart the progression of 20th century movements across a wonderful selection of paintings, sculpture and ceramics.
Bringing together works from Britain and beyond, the exhibition presents major British figures including David Hockney and Elisabeth Frink alongside international artists such as George Grosz, Lyonel Feininger and Paul-Emile Pissarro.
From Impressionism and post-Impressionism represented by leading British figures including Alfred Munnings, Harold Harvey and John Duncan Fergusson, through to abstraction by the post-War generation such as Patrick Heron and a major example by Sandra Blow.
The bold and radical work of London's 1960s avant-garde onwards is reflected in works by David Hockney and Patrick Procktor. In addition, we are delighted to include four examples directly from the Studio of Anthony Whishaw (b.1930) -including the rare Interior with Musicians (1967), which was directly inspired by the artist encountering Pink Floyd rehearing next door to his studio in Notting Hill Gate for one of their first ‘underground’ gigs.
Three-dimensional form across sculpture and studio ceramics - now receiving the critical prominence it deserves - include examples by some of the movements key practioners, such as Elisabeth Frink, Robert Adams, Bernard Leach and Ewen Henderson.
To join us at the opening reception on Thursday 26 March, 4-8pm, please RSVP here.
