Richard Eurich 1903-1992
Framed: 45 x 37 cm.; 17¾ x 14½ in.
Richard Eurich studied at the preeminent Slade School of Art under the renowned Henry Tonks until 1926. His first show was held at Goupil Gallery in 1929. He went on to have a long association with Redfern Gallery and the Fine Art Society from 1973. Perhaps his most significant contribution to 20th century British art was his exceptional panoramas as part of the War Artists Advisory committee in World War II, held at the Imperial War Museum. He was particularly drawn to the British landscape and beach scenes, which are often imbued with a sense of intrigue and oddity - a distinct British sensibility. The present example has a prominently whimsical and playful tone, painted for a special exhibition organised by Redfern Gallery, Paintings for Children', in 1945.
