The present work depicts a classic yacht racing scene off Cowes, as four magnificent cutters pass Norris Castle on the north-east point of the Isle of Wight. It exemplifies Dews' technical ability and his place as one of the most accomplished living maritime artists.

Dews' work has been commissioned by major institutions, including the Marine Board of New South Wales, who engaged him to record the Australian Bicentennial celebrations; the New York Yacht Club, which commissioned him to commemorate its 150th Anniversary Regatta in 1994; and the Royal Yacht Squadron, which selected him to paint both the 2001 America’s Cup Jubilee Regatta and its 200-year celebrations. He is particularly renowned for his dramatic America’s Cup paintings and was commissioned to record every America’s Cup regatta raced by Alinghi.

Dews lives the maritime world he paints. An experienced yachtsman, he brings first-hand knowledge of sailing to his compositions, lending authenticity to his depictions of wind, sea, and sky. This deep connection to his subject, combined with technical mastery, has made his work highly prized among collectors worldwide.
