The piece was made in response to the 300 year anniversary of Capability Brown’s birth, using imagery from Blenheim Palace grounds. These images were printed onto layers of silk and cotton fabrics with figure silhouettes cut out or applied and stitched. The work is mounted between 2 pieces of perspex.
Helen experiments with the enduring sensation of a vanished human presence. Her work embraces printing, photography, painting and drawing. Ruined buildings, remote landscapes and historical events provide inspiration. Ethereal qualities are interpreted by layering sheer materials with different images of her photographs or sketches, transferred to cloth by digital printing, disperse dyes or paint. Suggestions of shadowy figures are stitched into the work.
