The watercolour and ink illustration depicts an interaction between two men. One man is seated on a box, while the other man, who is standing, leans forward towards him. The standing man is wearing a dark outfit and a cap, and appears to be gesturing or leaning in towards the seated man, who is dressed in lighter clothing. The seated man is engaging with the standing man, and their interaction seems animated, possibly indicating a discussion or argument. The background is loosely rendered with abstract, muted tones, and the scene includes loosely sketched elements that resemble flowers or plants. The brushwork and line work are expressive, emphasising the movement and intensity of the moment.

Roland Batchelor was a British artist, born in Chelsea on 16 October 1889. He painted in watercolour but was also a draughtsman and printmaker. As a child he would paint but worked as a Civil Servant. In his spare time, he would paint and studied, learning from George Marrow at Putney School of Art. After serving in France in WW1 he continued his studies at Regent Street Polytechnic School of Art under Harry Watson. He regularly exhibited at R.A. and R.W.S. Victoria and Albert Museum holds his work.
