In Arches, Orlik depicts a tall, architectural structure with a lofty main arch with progressively lower arches cascading down its side; pink and yellow light gently suffuses and graduates down on the curved sides of the building. The interior of the arches is punctuated by a further steady rhythm of arches and shafts of light are created by a gap running along the top of the central arch - so that the two sides don’t seem to connect and other piercings create a pattern of light and dark. Inside the arches, brown leaf-less branches rise up like the interior workings (arteries and veins) of a body. Threads hang down from the arches reaching to the outside as if the building could be scaled. Orlik employs a soft palette of gentle colouration and harmonious earth tones which gives the painting a serene quality.
