Biography
Jack Coulter (b. 1994) is an Irish artist based in Northern Ireland. His works are an all-encompassing visual and audio experience, informed by his synaesthesia, in which he experiences sound as colour. Since graduating from Belfast School of Art in 2015, he has been making waves with his multi-layered, music-inspired paintings, garnering him accolades, extensive collaborations and notable followers.
In 2020, the Financial Times recognised Coulter as one of the most popular emerging abstract painters. In 2021, he was included in the prestigious Forbes '30 Under 30' list for Art & Culture. His paintings can be found in private collections internationally, with notable collectors including Hilary M. Weston, Post Malone, Billie Eilish and the Freddie Mercury Estate. In 2015, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland acquired Coulter's painting 21 and in 2022, the Science Museum acquired a specially commissioned work for their exhibition Turn it Up: The Power of Music. Coulter's first public exhibition was held at Sotheby's, London in November 2022. His exhibition with Winsor Birch in July-August 2026 will be his first public exhibition in three years.
Earlier this year, Coulter collaborated in a live performance with Sir Elton John. Coulter painted Tiny Dancer while listening to John perform his legendary song on the piano beside him. A behind-the-scenes video featuring John, Furnish and Coulter was presented before the artwork was sold at auction to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundations in March 2026.
